Thomas Hardy Country Fair at Kingston Maurward from 12 noon onwards on Sunday 15th July 2018
The Thomas Hardy Society is celebrating our 50th Anniversary Festival and Conference this summer from 14th to 21st July.
A fair will be taking place that will reflect the Victorian period of Country crafts as well a music and drama of the period. Plans also include fairground items and food and drink from Dorset providers, and, stalls which draw on the work of local arts and craftspeople. We hope that we shall be proficing a fun attraction for the residents of Dorchester and surroundings and their families, and all conference delegates. 
Among the planned attractions will be:
Maypole dancing
Wife Selling, as featured in The Mayor of Casterbridge
Victorian Fayre with coconut shies, Skittles etc
Demonstrations by stonemasons, blacksmiths, hurdle makers and sheep shearers
Pottery demonstrations and sales by local potters
Music by local musicians
Period drama cameo productions
Guided walk round the gardens of Kingston Maurward with poetry readings
Ancient Wessex village camp of Bronze Age folk demonstrating ancient craftwork
Art exhibition by Dorchester Art Society
*** Hardy Cyder is being specially brewed for us by a local cider brewer - Dorset Star
The fair will be followed by an evening performance of The Trumpet-Major by the New Hardy Players
