Hardy's Novels: Changing Times and Changing Readings

A THS Conference Lecture by Professor Mike Irwin

Monday 13th July, 9.15 am, Sunninghill School, Dorchester, Dorset

Our world changes and we change with it. One is not the same reader at fifty as at twenty. We notice things we overlooked before, proportions shift and meanings are altered. How are Hardy's novels to be reconfigured in the twenty-first century?

Mike Irwin is Emeritus Professor of English at the University of Kent. Along with Reading Hardy's Landscapes, he has written a number of introductions to classic Victorian novels and contributed criticism and analysis of Hardy's works to many books and journals. Mike also served as Honourary Chairman of the Society from 2005 to 2008.
