'Hardy Novels: Changing Times and Changing Readings'
A THS Conference/Festival Lecture by Professor Mike Irwin
Tuesday 26th July at 9.15am - The United Church, Dorchester
Our world changes and we change with it. One is not the same reader at fifty as at twenty. We notice things previously overlooked: proportions shift and meanings are altered. How are Hardy's novels to be reconstrued in the twenty-first century?
Mike Irwin is Emeritus Professor of English and American Literature at the University of Kent. He wrote the introduction for the Wordsworth Classics edition of Desperate Remedies (2010) and is the author of many works including Reading Hardy's Landscapes (Palgrave Macmillan, 2000) and Picturing: Description and Illusion in the Nineteenth Century Novel (Allen & Unwin, 1979).
This lecture is free to full conference delegates. However tickets can be purchased for £10 (£8 for members) here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/hardy-novels-changing-times-and-changing-readings-by-professor-mike-irwin-tickets-301077720567
