Newbury town is finally on the Hardy trail

On 7th October 2023, in a ceremonious event, a commemorative plaque was installed outside the historic Chequers Hotel, positioned in the heart of Newbury, Berkshire, to honour the enduring connection between the celebrated author Thomas Hardy and this picturesque town, specifically linked to his final, exceedingly renowned, and quite controversial novel of its era, 'Jude the Obscure.
