STW Statue Unveiled at Dorchester Xmas Cracker

Sylvia Townsend Warner Commemoration

The Sylvia Townsend Warner statue was unveiled at Dorchester's Xmas Cracker by best-selling author, Tracy Chevalier.

Mark Chutter, THS Chair and Academic Director, was instrumental in making the statue a reality along with Anya Pearsom from Visible Women UK.

The statue was created by artist Denise Dutton and has some incredible fine detail. It is the first female statue in the town and has been much welcomed by residents.

Sited in South Street, Dorchester, the same street inhabited frequently by fellow authors Hardy and Barnes, the statue also serves as a public bench, with Susie, the popular town cat, also immortalised in the statue as STW loved cats.
