The Hand of Ethelberta
An adaptation by David Foulger

In 2019 Thomas Hardy enthusiast David Foulger completed a labour of love with an original dramatic adaptation of Hardy's novel The Hand of Ethelberta. First published in 1876 this story of a butler's daughter who disguises her humble origins in order to launch a successful career as a society poet an public teller of stories is a sadly under-rated novel that has not received as much critical attention as others in Hardy's oeuvre. David Foulger's fresh new adaptation aims to change that, bringing the characters to life in a unique format.
