Event Description

In this event, Abbie speaks to Dr Tracy Hayes, Secretary of the Thomas Hardy Society and popular speaker at conferences and study days. Tracy Hayes received her PhD in 2017 with a thesis investigating masculinity in the novels of Thomas Hardy, so we are really looking forward to discussing our July Book of the Month 'The Mayor of Casterbridge' with her.

Subtitled 'The Life and Death of a Man of Character', this 1886 novel began its life as a magazine serial, published as a book later that same year. Covering themes of gender, psychology, and class, this is a substantial summer read of one of the classics.

Suitable for anyone who is interested in re-visiting the classics, 19th century literature, or Thomas Hardy.
