Patrick Tolfree Essay Competition 2027
The Thomas Hardy Society is pleased to announce details of the 2027 Thomas Hardy Society Patrick Tolfree Student Essay Competition, open to students at undergraduate and postgraduate level around the world. The winning essay will be published in The Thomas Hardy Journal (pending revisions as appropriate), and its author will receive a prize of £250 from the Thomas Hardy Society and a year's membership to the society.
We invite original essays of between 5,000 and 7,000 words on any aspect of Hardy's life and work; you may wish to focus upon the novels, poems, short stories, essays, letters, or his contribution to architecture, but this list is not exhaustive and essays on other subjects are gladly received. Submitted essays must not be under consideration of publication anywhere else.
Please note that submitted essays should adhere to the THS Journal Style Guide, which can be found at www.hardysociety.org/journals
