A New Display Board to Celebrate Hardy's Marlott
A new Thomas Hardy Interpretation Panel was unveiled recently outside The Crown at Marnhull (widely thought to be Hardy’s inspiration for The Pure Drop in Tess of the D’Urbervilles), replacing the old one which had stood on the site for 40 years.
THS CoM members, David and Felicity Burnet, who manage THS membership, Toby Heasman, Head Brewer, from Hall and Woodhouse and Monty from The Crown.
David and Felicity read passages from Tess in which Marnhull, Hardy's Marlott, is described as ‘This fertile and sheltered tract of country, in which the fields are never brown and the springs never dry’.
A Hardy Trail leaflet that highlights the key locations in the village associated with Tess of the D’Urbervilles is available at The Crown.
