A Portrait of Tess/Mr Hardy's War:

Thomas Hardy and the Remarkable Thorneycrofts in Peace and War

Presented by Andrew and Marilyn Leah

The portrait is of Agatha Cox 'Her on whom I thought when I wrote Tess'. She married Hamo Thorneycroft, the sculptor, in 1884 and thus became the aunt of Sigfried Sassoon.
The story of the relationship between Thomas hardy and the remarkable Thorneycroft family is told in extracts from letters and diaries. Narrated by Andrew and Marily Leah, the illustrated talk also features Dorchester Town Cryer Alistair Chisholm as Thomas Hardy.

In the second part of the evening we examine Hardy's contributions to war and peace and the developing friendship with Sigfried Sassoon. Again told through extracts from letters, diaries and other writing, music and poems, this wonderful presentation will also feature Tim Laycock as Sassoon, and Alistair Chisholm as Mr Hardy.

This event is free for delegates of the Thomas Hardy Society Fiftieth Anniversary Festival and Conference, otherwise tickets may be purchased for 15/13 concession.
