'Hardy's Wessex' Dorset Museum Volunteers Wanted
Landscapes that Inspired a Writer
Can you spare some time during our major Thomas Hardy exhibition this summer at the Dorset Museum?
From 28 May to 30 October 2022, the Dorset Museum will be hosting ‘Hardy's Wessex: The landscapes that inspired a writer’. This is part of a major exhibition organised by the Wessex Museums Partnership across four venues – The Salisbury Museum, Wiltshire Museum (Devizes), Poole Museum and Dorset Museum (Dorchester).
This will take a fresh look at the life and literature of the Victorian novelist and poet Thomas Hardy, in the stunning Wessex landscapes that shaped his view of the world. His story will be retold in exciting new ways by our museum collections, many of which have never been on display before.
At the Dorset Museum, we are looking for friendly and dedicated steward volunteers to make our exhibitions a success!
Our exhibition volunteer stewards will take on a vital public-facing role that includes supervising the exhibition space and answering visitor questions. We welcome people of all abilities and offer a supportive environment for those with additional needs. We will provide all training for the role; no prior volunteering or museum experience is needed, just enthusiasm and commitment!
If you are available Saturdays and Sundays (although other days may be optional during exhibition periods between May and October), are over 18 and would like to find out more about this exciting opportunity, please contact our Museum volunteer team volunteering@dorsetmuseum.org
