An afternoon to explore Hardy's relationship with music

Hardy & Music

What a wonderful afternoon we had! We had the opportunity to explore all aspects of
music in relation to Hardy.

Dr Natalie Burton provided some fascinating insights with this year's birthday lecture: "Raise a Hearty Tune": Hardy’s Poetry in Art Song when she explored the different ways composers approach the musical setting of Hardy’s words.

After a refreshment break with tea and the most delicious cake, Bonny Sartin focused on Hardy's musical roots and amused us with many tales from times gone by and performed some great folk tunes, with his performance of "The Musical Heritage of Thomas Hardy".

Last but not least, some traditional music played by John Dike on violin, Margaret Dike on cello and Dave Barlow on mandolin, The Greenwood Tree-O.
