Dorchester property receives a blue plaque

THE THOMAS HARDY TOWN HOUSE

The newly renovated Thomas Hardy Town House at 51 High West Street in Dorchester was opened on Sunday at the Thomas Hardy Victorian Fair.

Hardy not only owned the building but penned ‘A Changed Man’ there. THS Chair and Academic Director, Mark Damon Chutter, read an extract from the 1913 short story, and was very impressed with the building. Mark said "This is a perfect example of sensitive conservation which keeps our literary and architectural heritage alive as a legacy for future generations".
