Building Dorchester’s Civic Pride

If you are interested in Dorchester and wish to see the character and setting of the town maintained and enhanced then Dorchester Civic Society is your go-to organisation.

Currently celebrating their 50th Anniversary, the Civic Society is an independent and non-political organisation which seeks to involve people of all ages and backgrounds. They exist to stimulate people’s interest in the town and its setting and promote civic pride. In particular, they encourage high standards of architecture, urban design and planning and work to preserve and enhance buildings and areas of historic interest and the town’s landscape setting. An important part of that is the cultural heritage of Thomas Hardy, the buildings and local landscapes that commemorate his life and works.
