Saturday, 11th January 2025 marked the 97th anniversary of the death of Thomas Hardy. Members of the Thomas Hardy Society along with admirers of the great writer met at Poets' Corner for the annual wreath-laying service at Westminster Abbey.
Readings of Hardy's poems - The Self Unseeing, Shelley's Skylark, Not Only I and The Darkling Thrush were read by THS Chair & Academic Director and members of the THS Council of Management before the wreath of Stinsford Yew was laid on his grave. The Westminster Canon in Residence then performed a blessing.
A huge thanks to the Dean and Westminster Abbey Chapter for co-ordinating the event and leading the service.
