Mozart’s Bastien et Bastienne

17th Aug 2024, 6:30 pm, Holme for Gardens, Wareham, Dorset

Join us for a beautiful summer’s evening of music, mischief and Morris dancing as we bring Mozart’s first-ever opera to Holme Gardens!

Mozart’s Bastien et Bastienne is a one-act comic singspiel, composed in 1768 when Mozart was just 12 years old.  Our setting will be Thomas Hardy-inspired and set during the joy and silliness of May Day celebrations. The story follows the chaos, heartache and eventual reconciliation that ensues when Colas, the Lord of Misrule, meddles in a young shepherd and shepherdess’s courtship (Bastien et Bastienne). It will be sung in French with English recits (spoken bits).

Our cast will be members of the renowned Dorset Opera Chorus.
