Thomas Hardy: the Novels, the Novelist and Dorchester.
Lecturer: Alban O'Brien
The talk will aim to do three things: to refer to all 14 novels, to tell Hardy’s life story and to show how the town of Dorchester played a significant part in both. The talk should appeal to lovers of Thomas Hardy and Dorchester, newcomers to his works or anyone who is just curious to know why Thomas Hardy is Dorset’s favourite son.

Alban O'Brien is a retired English teacher, leader of many literary holidays, including Hardy tours, and volunteer at Hardy’s Cottage. Although originally from the North West, Alban has lived in Puddletown since 2017. He is a lifelong student of literature, with an MA in Shakespeare and Theatre from the Shakespeare Institute, and an active member of the Thomas Hardy Society.
