A fun afternoon discussing Hardy & Barnes

Hardy & Dorset Dialect

A most enjoyable afternoon was had discussing the Dorset dialect in works by Hardy and Barnes. THS Chair & Academic Director, Mark Damon Chutter gave an overview of the local dialect, its origins and how it was used differently by the two notable authors.

Readings followed, with contributions from Jane Ashdown, Mark North and Davina Symes from the William Barnes Society, followed by fun have-a go sessions with those attending.

A rousing rendition of Linden Lea was sung before tea and cake, giving a nod to Barnes on his 225th birthday.

It was great fun!
