Alan Johnson was introduced to Hardy by a fellow postman at Slough Sorting Office who leant him a coyp of Return of the Native. One of his happiest memories is of sitting in his Post Office van down a Buckinghamshire country lane reading Tess of the d'Urbervilles before beginning the evening collection.

The popular author of a number of books including four volumes of memoirs, Alan's works include: This Boy, Please Mister Postman, The Long and Winding Road, and In My Life.

Tickets: For those who are not attending the conference in its entirety - £10 (£8 for THS Members)
