Richard Franklin is the Chairman of the Thomas Hardy Society. His training was in theology and he was a parish priest for many years but he has always been deeply interested in literature and especially the work of Hardy. Last year he published Thomas Hardy and Religion: Theological Themes in Tess of the d'Urbervilles and Jude the Obscure.
