Hardy and Costume: An Interactive Workshop
A THS Conference/Festival Workshop with Lucy Brown
Friday 29th July at 3pm - The United Church, Dorchester

Lucy will introduce Hardy's use of clothes and costume in his novels and poems to denote social standing, intent, character and mood using examples from various texts.
Attendees will then work in groups of 4-6 in order to answer the question: 'How does the clothing description add to the reader's understanding of the story/character/society?'
Drawing paper and pencils will be available to encourage readers to respond visually with their own images and to generate discussion of this fascinating aspect of Hardy's oeuvre, first addressed in Professor Simon Gatrell's book Thomas Hardy and Dress.
This event is free to full conference delegates. However tickets can be purchased for £10 (£8 for members) here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/hardy-and-costume-an-interactive-workshop-with-lucy-brown-tickets-308188097897
