The Late Justin Barnard Charitable Art Exhibition
THS Benefactor's Art to Raise Money for Charity
Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th July
Bergh Apton Village Hall, Norfolk
As a child, Justin loved ‘Nature’ and observed and painted wildlife. He kept ‘nature’ diaries and wanted to be an ornithologist or vet. But life had other plans. He became a Chartered Accountant.
At school, however, he found two new loves - the Romantic Poets and Shakespeare. He began to write his own poetry, which also figures in his artwork.
At Cambridge he read ‘Ballroom Dancing with subsidiary English’ (as the family says)! He captained the university Ballroom Dancing Team, loving the exhilaration of dance…and discovered girls. He was always captivated by the female face and form, and the female muse is often the subject of his work.
In his later years, Justin travelled widely, and during a writing holiday in Greece, he rediscovered his ability to paint. He turned his back on accountancy, retrained, and followed his heart.
Justin always cared about humanitarian issues … Amnesty and child poverty. He wrote to men on Death Row. He photographed street children in India. He would buy the little bracelets they were selling, to try to help them.
He supported wide range of charities – educational, wildlife and literary. He did his best to leave a positive mark on the world. He died unexpectedly in 2021 aged 60.
All sales raised from this exhibition will be given to four specific charities - Ukraine, Thurton and Ashby Pre-school, the Chartered Accountants' Benevolent Association and Macmillan Cancer Support.
